A Sturdy Epoxy Garage Floor Upgrade for National City Homes

National City is one of the oldest cities in San Diego County, and a lot of its garages show it. Detached garages behind early 1900s bungalows, postwar homes with single car slabs, and newer houses near the 805 all end up with the same problems that epoxy garage flooring solves: oil stains, cracks, and concrete that sheds dust every time you sweep.

Epoxy garage flooring seals that slab under a hard, glossy surface you can hose off. We grind the concrete first, install a Mil-Spec coating system, and back the bond with a lifetime adhesion warranty. Our shop in Ocean Beach is a short drive up the 5, so National City is one of the easiest places for our crews to work.

Nu Garage & Epoxy has coated garages around San Diego since 2005, under one owner the whole time.

A Family Crew With Military Roots

Family ownership, with veteran and first responder roots, is how this company started. Nathan Obermeyer founded it in 2005, and with Naval Base San Diego on the edge of National City, a lot of our neighbors here know what a military standard means.

Your floor is coated by family members and technicians who have worked with us for years. We don’t use subcontractors, and nobody on the crew works on commission.

Pricing is simple. Give us a call, tell us the size of the garage, and you’ll usually have a guaranteed number within a few minutes.

What Makes Our Garage Epoxy Flooring Installation Process Unique

Put one of our floors next to a store bought kit and the difference in thickness is obvious.

Most garage coatings sold for homes are thin, single layer products. We install a Military Specification (Mil-Spec) coating system instead, and you can ask any installer what they use before you hire them.

Mil-Spec coatings are made for the wear on hangar and warehouse floors. In a National City garage, Mil-Spec epoxy garage flooring is a floor that can take a project car on jack stands, a dropped socket set, or a pan of drained oil without chipping or staining.

Concrete Prep Is the Core of Epoxy Garage Flooring

Old concrete is the biggest challenge in National City. A slab poured decades ago may be soaked with oil, covered in old paint, or cracked from settling, and a coating rolled over any of that will start to peel and flake sooner or later.

Every floor we coat gets diamond ground to CSP 3 to 5. That removes the contaminated surface and leaves an open, rough profile for the base coat to grip. Cracks and spalls get repaired before any coating goes down.

A quick acid wash and a roller can make a floor look finished for a season. Grinding is what makes it last.

A Lifetime Adhesion Guarantee That Counts

Every floor we install carries our lifetime adhesion warranty, which we started offering in 2005 when no one else in the industry did.

What stands behind it: two decades and counting across San Diego County, California contractor license #1029937, full insurance coverage, an A+ from the Better Business Bureau, and a long list of customer reviews on Yelp, Google, Thumbtack and Facebook.

More Than Garage Floors: Advanced Coating Expertise

Beyond the garage, we refinish pool decks, backyard patios, walkways and driveways with a urethane polymer coating made to sit in the sun for years.

National City has plenty of working floors too, from dealerships and repair bays to warehouses near the bay, and we coat those with industrial floor systems. We also handle restaurants, breweries, commercial kitchens, server rooms and hangars.

Garage Organization Designed for a Finished Look

In a lot of National City homes, the garage is a workshop as much as a parking spot. We design garage layouts around the new floor, with ceiling racks for bins and seasonal gear, slatwall for tools, and storage cabinets that keep the bench area clear.

For ceiling storage we use MonsterRax and Safe Racks, and for cabinets and slatwall we use Flow Wall.

What Happens During an Epoxy Garage Flooring Install

Plan on one working day for most epoxy garage flooring jobs here, with a spare day held in case the old concrete needs more repair. Install morning starts with clearing the floor and covering the walls and door trim, and then the grinding begins.

Inspection

Once the slab is clean and repaired, we look it over before anything is rolled on. Base coat goes first, then chip broadcast wall to wall. After the flakes set, we scrape off the excess and finish with a clear polyaspartic layer.

Dry Time

Give it about a day before walking on it and two before parking the car or rolling a project vehicle in. Chilly nights slow the clear coat down a bit, and we’ll tell you the exact timing before we go.

Next Morning

The next morning, you’ll have a floor that resists oil, brake fluid, gas and most cleaners, and it won’t yellow when the afternoon sun hits it. Clean it with a mop and a few drops of dish soap. We can add an anti-slip additive if the garage is also a shop or gym.
