Stronger San Diego Garages Start With Expert Epoxy Flooring
Our shop is on Santa Monica Avenue in Ocean Beach, and San Diego is where Nu Garage & Epoxy started installing epoxy garage flooring in 2005. Most of our work is in the city itself. That includes beach-area garages that sit in salt air and marine layer fog for half the year, and mesa-top tract homes in Clairemont and Mira Mesa where the slab has carried two cars, a workbench and forty years of oil drips.
Those garages wear out in different ways, but the fix starts in the same place. Epoxy garage flooring holds up as long as its bond to the concrete underneath. We grind every slab, install a Mil-Spec coating system, and stand behind the floor with a lifetime adhesion warranty.
We’ve been doing this in San Diego for more than 20 years, and no other epoxy garage flooring contractor in the city has been operating as long under its original ownership.
Family, Veteran and First Responder Owned
Nu Garage & Epoxy is family owned, veteran owned and first responder owned. Nathan Obermeyer founded the company in San Diego in 2005, and it is still under his ownership today.
We don’t have a sales department or commissioned closers, and we don’t send out subcontractors. Our crew is family plus long-tenured technicians who have coated thousands of square feet of garage floor across San Diego County, from Point Loma to Rancho Bernardo.
Most consultations take about two minutes on the phone. You’ll come away knowing how a coating system is built, what your garage needs, and the guaranteed price, all before anyone visits your house.

What Sets Our Epoxy Garage Flooring System Apart
Our floors look different because the materials are different.
We install a Military Specification (Mil-Spec) coating system instead of the thinner residential-grade kits most installers use. If you’re comparing companies, here are the questions worth asking any contractor.
Mil-Spec coatings are rated for the thickness and wear of aircraft hangars, forklift aisles and military bases. In a garage, that shows up as deeper color in the chip broadcast, a heavier clear coat, and a surface that hot tires won’t lift. That matters in a city where plenty of people pull in after a summer drive on the I-8 or the 163. Dropped wrenches and spilled brake fluid don’t mark it either.
Why Concrete Prep Decides How Epoxy Garage Flooring Lasts
When a coating peels, bubbles or flakes, the cause is almost always the prep. Older San Diego slabs carry decades of oil, sealers and patch jobs, and newer ones often have a slick, troweled surface. Epoxy won’t hold on either one without proper prep.
We diamond grind every floor to a concrete surface profile of CSP 3 to 5. Grinding opens the pores of the slab so the base coat locks in mechanically. Acid etching skips that step, and so do the cheap kits, which is why those floors start lifting under tire heat within a few years.
How long your floor lasts depends mostly on the first few hours of the job. We put the time in there.
A Lifetime Adhesion Warranty That Actually Means Something
In 2005, our team became the first in the industry to offer a lifetime adhesion warranty on garage floor coatings, and we still offer it. A warranty is only worth something if the company behind it is still around, and plenty of coating outfits close within a few years.
Nu Garage & Epoxy has operated continuously in San Diego since 2005. We’re licensed by the State of California (License #1029937), fully insured, A+ rated with the Better Business Bureau, and reviewed on Google, Yelp, Facebook and Thumbtack. Those credentials are how you know someone will still honor your warranty in 2045.
Beyond Garage Floors: A Full Concrete Coating Resource
Garage floors are most of our work, but we coat the rest of the concrete too. Near the coast that usually means pool decks, patios and walkways that take direct sun and salt air all year. We coat those with urethane polymer concrete systems built for that exposure. Driveways round out the residential side.
San Diego also has plenty of commercial floors, and Kearny Mesa and Miramar are full of them. We install industrial-grade coatings for warehouses, breweries, restaurant kitchens, auto shops, anti-static server rooms, hospitals, locker rooms and aircraft hangars.
Garage Organization to Match Your Floor
A new floor shows off whatever sits on it, so many customers redo the whole garage at once. We design layouts with MonsterRax and Safe Racks overhead storage, Flow Wall cabinets, slatwall and shelving, and we plan everything around the floor so the room comes together as one design.
In a San Diego garage, the space often has to work as a surfboard rack, a bike shop and a home gym on top of parking. We start with what you actually keep in there and plan the walls and ceiling around it.
What to Expect From Your Epoxy Garage Flooring Installation
Most residential installs take a single day. We block two days on the calendar in case the slab needs extra repair, and a rare heavily damaged slab runs into a third. On install morning we clear the floor, mask the walls and door frames, and start grinding.
Inspection
After grinding, we inspect the slab and repair any cracks or spalls. Then the epoxy base coat goes down, we broadcast the chip blend, scrape off the loose chip once it cures, and seal everything under a polyaspartic clear coat.
Dry Time
You can walk on the floor within a day. The coating manufacturer recommends 48 hours before driving on it. Polyaspartic cures more slowly in cool air, so on a damp night near the coast it can take a little longer. Before we leave, we’ll tell you the exact time you can park on it.
Next Morning
By the next morning, your floor is UV stable, so it won’t yellow where the afternoon sun comes under the door. It resists oil, brake fluid and most household chemicals, and it cleans up with a tablespoon of dish soap in five gallons of warm water. For a home gym or workshop, we can mix an anti-skid additive into the top coat.
Schedule a Free Phone Consultation
Call or text 619-537-8837 with your garage’s square footage and how we’d get in, and we can usually quote, answer questions and book the install in that one call. Most calls take under two minutes, and San Diego jobs rarely need a site visit. You’ll get a guaranteed rate, a realistic date, and straight answers on prep, warranty and finish options.
We also serve the neighborhoods around the city, including La Jolla, Clairemont, Kearny Mesa, Mira Mesa and Carmel Valley. Epoxy garage flooring from the longest-standing installer in San Diego is one call away.
San Diego Epoxy Garage Flooring FAQ
Does salt air near the beach affect a garage floor coating?
Salt air and fog are hard on bare concrete and metal, but a properly bonded coating seals the slab surface. For patios and pool decks out in the weather, we use urethane polymer systems made for direct sun and salt exposure.
My house was built in the 1960s. Can the original slab be coated?
Usually, yes. Older slabs often have oil soaked in, old paint or sealer, and cracks. Diamond grinding removes the surface contamination, and we repair cracks before the base coat goes down.
Do you need to come out to my house to give a quote?
Rarely. For most San Diego garages, we can quote over the phone from the square footage and access details, and the price is guaranteed.
How soon can I park in the garage?
You can walk on it within a day. The manufacturer recommends 48 hours before driving on it, and cool, damp nights can stretch that a little.
Do you coat commercial floors in San Diego too?
Yes. We coat warehouses, breweries, restaurant kitchens, auto shops and other commercial spaces with industrial-grade systems.
